AMERICAN ANIMALS

Evan Peters (X-Men: Days of Future Past, American Horror Story), Barry Keoghan,
Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson star in American
Animals. The movie recounts the (true) story of four friends who, motivated
by the boredom and tediousness of their existence, plot to steal rare books and
art from the library at Transylvania University.
OCEAN’S 8

When an Ocean’s movie gets it right, there’s
something irresistibly exciting about watching it all go down. The George
Clooney movies are modern caper classics—okay, maybe not Ocean’s 12, but hey—and now we get to see Sandra Bullock put her
spin on all that heist-y goodness. Ocean’s
8 unites Sandra Bullock (Debbie Ocean), Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway,
Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, and Awkwafina as their characters attempt to rob the Met Gala.
HEREDITARY

In Hereditary, a family is haunted by the loss of a loved one. Then,
when secrets from the past begin to come out, something far more sinister
threatens to envelop them. Hereditary
is already being hailed by critics as a modern horror classic and a breakout
debut for director Ari Aster.
WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?

The documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor looks at the
life and legacy of Fred Rogers. Rogers is best known, of course, for the
children’s program Mister Roger’s
Neighborhood, but his influence as a broadcasting icon—and perhaps more importantly, as a profoundly decent human being—have resonated well beyond his career at
PBS.
HOTEL ARTEMIS

In Hotel Artemis, Jodie Foster plays the Nurse, a woman who maintains
a secret hospital for criminals in a near-future Los Angeles. Sofia Boutella,
Sterling K. Brown, Dave Bautista, Jeff Goldblum, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto,
and Charlie Day co-star.

THE INCREDIBLES 2

“Long-awaited” or “highly
anticipated” hardly do justice to Incredibles
2, the sequel to Pixar’s animated superhero masterpiece from 2004. This
time, Elastigirl takes center stage in the fight for public endorsement of
supers—even as a villain called the Screenslaver poses a new threat. The movie
stars Holly Hunter as Elastigirl, Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Sarah
Vowell as Violet, Huck Milner as Dash, and Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone.
SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO

In
Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Josh
Brolin and Benicio del Toro play two agents sent by the U.S. government to deal
with new threats in the ongoing struggle with drug cartels. The original Sicario (2015) is a powerfully
effective and immersive crime thriller, so Day
of the Soldado will be worth paying attention to.

Tag
follows a group of friends (played by Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jake
Johnson, and Hannibal Buress) who keep in touch through the years with a
long-distance game of tag. Trailers for the movie feature some downright
hilarious moments… and others that are only so-so. Either way, the premise is
just so ridiculous (and based on a true story, by the way), that Tag looks like a lot of fun.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

Chris Pratt and Bryce
Dallas Howard reunite for Jurassic World:
Fallen Kingdom. The novelty of this franchise wore off some time ago, but I
suppose there’s something to be said for the spectacle of seeing dinosaurs
almost eat Chris Pratt. Colin Trevorrow returns to direct.
