SHAZAM!

(April 5)

     In the latest movie from DC Comics, an orphan named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) gets transported into another dimension. In the lair of an ancient wizard, he’s given the power to transform into a superhero, Shazam (Zachary Levi), at will. Billy and his pal Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) have fun exploring Billy’s newfound abilities, but when the villainous Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) arrives on the scene, Billy will have to put his powers to the test. David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) directed the film.

PET SEMATARY

(April 5)

     Pet Sematary is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1983 novel of the same name. It follows a family who moves to a peaceful spot in rural Maine… only to be haunted by a sinister force emanating from the burial ground near their property. The movie stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow, and looks hella creepy.

HIGH LIFE

(April 5, limited)

     If you, like me, enjoy science fiction, and if you, like me, enjoy science fiction that’s bizarre, hypnotic, and quite possibly pretentious, you’ll want to look out for High Life. The movie centers around a criminal (Robert Pattinson) and his daughter on a long voyage in space. After a mysterious event kills the ship’s crew, they’ll have to work together to avoid disaster. Clarie Denis directed the film. 

MISSING LINK

(April 12, limited)

     Missing Link stars Hugh Jackman and Zoe Saldana as two explorers on a mission to find bigfoot. Zach Galifianakis plays Link, the bigfoot they’re looking for. But when Link crosses paths with the explorers, he leads them on a new journey of discovery: to locate the secretive city of Shangri-La. Missing Link was produced by Laika, the animation studio behind several noteworthy films, including Coraline and the exceptional Kubo and the Two Strings.

LITTLE WOODS

(April 19, limited)

     Nia DaCosta directed Little Woods, a crime thriller set in a nowhere town called Little Woods, North Dakota. Ollie (Tessa Thompson) and Deb (Lily James) are estranged sisters who have to put aside their differences—and some significant obstacles of their own—to save their mother’s house from foreclosure.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME

(April 26)

     History’s highest grossing movie franchise comes to an end (of sorts) with Avengers: Endgame, the follow-up to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. The movie follows the surviving members of the superhero team after a resounding defeat from Thanos, an alien wielding the unmatchable power of the Infinity Stones. Together, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Bruce Banner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and their remaining allies will pick up the pieces and make one last-ditch effort to restore order to the universe.
