Dracula and his group
of monster misfits return to the big screen in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. This time, Dracula (Adam
Sandler) leaves the hotel behind after his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) drags
him onto a monster-friendly cruise ship for summer vacation. Things run smoothly
at first; the family kicks back and Dracula falls for the ship captain, Ericka
(Kathryn Hahn). But the trip takes a turn for the worst when Ericka, who is
secretly a member of the vampire-hunting Van Helsing family, sets a plan in
motion to destroy all the monsters aboard.
Hotel Transylvania 3 isn’t particularly special, but it’s not offensive,
either. If you’ve kept up with the previous installments in the series, you’ll
find that Hotel Transylvania 3
essentially provides more of the same (for better or worse). The under-10 crowd
will get a kick out of the gags—many of which earn a solid laugh—and adults
should be reasonably entertained as long as their expectations are set.

As a family friendly
flick, Summer Vacation puts comedy at
the forefront. Nobody’s about to mistake it for a high-brow affair, but Sandler
and the (ridiculously star-studded) cast make the experience an enjoyably silly
one, complete with slapstick, gross-outs, and dance battles. The jokes are
mostly cute, mostly harmless, and mostly funny. And just like the original Hotel Transylvania and its first sequel,
Summer Vacation keeps the humor
grounded with a friendly moral lesson.
From an animation standpoint, there’s not a
whole lot to say about Hotel Transylvania
3; the filmmakers care about telling their story and don’t seem preoccupied
with raising any bars. Still, the animators work with physical humor in some
creative ways. A few sequences that include real monsters—as in, monsters that
are genuinely scary instead of goofy—are especially impressive to look at.

FINAL VERDICT: Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation
ends the trilogy in much the same fashion as the first two movies.

Yay! This is definitely going to the watch list. The vacations are about to start and since we have finished watching all the good shows by Andy Yeatman, I will have to add something to the watch list. This one is a good addition. I must look for more.
